Federico Beauty Institute Travels to London
Pivot Point International recently sponsored a study abroad trip to London, giving a lucky group of students the chance of a lifetime. They studied with the famed Pivot Point International Artistic Director, Yolly Ten Koppel at the Vidal Sassoon Advanced Academy in London. The Pivot Point Design Forum Series is led by Yolly. In this series, step-by-step instructions and news on new styles and trends are shared twice a year. Gary Federico, who owns Federico Beauty Institute, accompanied the students on their trip.
Gary said that this was an opportunity for students to work with Yolly and other famous beauty industry professionals while traveling the world. Gary went on to say that he felt very inspired watching the students explore the cities while learning new designs and getting work experience.
Students went on a tour of the city immediately after arriving at Heathrow Airport. The students visited many of the well-know London landmarks, such as Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Big Ben, and others! The students had a wonderful opportunity to shop in fashionable Camden Lock after their tour of the city. The students discovered cool accessories and clothing while shopping in the outdoor markets in Camden Lock. The students ate a delicious evening meal at a local pub later that day, after going to their hotel, the Corus Hotel Hyde Park.
Our students viewed the British Crown Jewels, located in the Tower of London, on day two of their trip. Once having left the Tower, they proceeded to the Tower Bridge and Saint Paul's Cathedral. After a visit to these great historic sites, they went into the city to explore via the "Tube" - London's well-known subway system.
The next day, Federico students were ready to start at Vidal Sassoon Advanced Academy. Yolly worked closely with the students and taught them how to create layered, sculptured hairstyles with razor tools. The second day of a student's training included practicing hair sculpting techniques on mannequins. Yolly stressed the importance of sales in a salon, besides teaching styling techniques. She told the students they should use professional products for all of the services they provide and that they should recommend these products to every client.
Students had some free time after a couple of hard days of study at Vidal Sassoon. Off they went to see Hampton Court Palace and other sights in London. The palace was built in 1514. Members of the royal family have not lived there since the 1700s. The next day, the students went to the Shakespeare Globe Theater for lessons in Elizabethan costuming, exposure to the theater, and lots of interesting stories. After having a look at the Globe, they proceeded to the Tate Modern Museum just next door to view works by renowned artists, such as Picasso. At the end of this whirlwind day, the whole crew bundled off to the West End to watch We Will Rock You - a show based on the music of the band called Queen.
The students were free to do their own exploration of the beautiful city of London on their last day of the trip. After breakfasting in the hotel, the students went off on an excursion, traversing London via The Tube.
The week flew by for the Federico students, who then headed for home full of excitement, education and experience. Lots of beauty school students miss out on the experiences that are just business as usual at Pivot Point International and Federico Beauty Institute. The opportunity to travel abroad with Federico Beauty Institute gives students a great opportunity to learn with famous educators while enjoying world travel.
The Senior Editor at Modern Salon Magazine, Alison Shipley, also accompanied the students on their tour. She is at Pivot Point School in Bloomingdale, IL now.
