NAHA Inspires Federico Beauty Institute Students

The creative world of professional, editorial styling is a wonderful gateway to inspire and motivate new and upcoming cosmetologists. The inspiration of each student is what Federico Beauty Institute strives for. Each year, they invite a group of students to attend the North American Hairstyling Awards, otherwise known as NAHA, to encourage the students.

One of the largest events occurring in the industry of beauty is NAHA. There are thirteen award categories, and a panel of judges that goes over the submissions that have been photographed professionally to pick the winners. During the Beauty Week at PBA, there is an amazing ceremony at which there is a presentation of the awards. The Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada hosted the ceremony.

The pupils who go to Federico that were at the event were amazed when they had the opportunity to visit with beauty industry superstars.

"FBI made my first time in Vegas a fantastic experience!" one pupil remarked. He went on to say that the NAHA event was amazing and something he would be anxious to attend in the future.

Pupils got a chance to meet with a number of people who had won the NAHA award, both past and present. The award recipients that the Federico students were able to meet included Vasken Demirjian, who won the 2010 Salon Designs award, Nicholas French, who won of the 2010, 2008, and 2006 Avant Garde award, and Steven Elias, who won of the 2010 Editorial Stylist of the Year award. Those attending also got the opportunity to meet Geno Stampora, the 2009 Hall of Leaders winner and John Simpson winner of the 2008 Haircolorist of the Year award.

It was an amazing experience when the students got the chance to meet these professionals from the industry of beauty and view their work.

"We witnessed individuals who are now living our dreams, or mine anyway. It provided a goal for me to work towards." That was a statement from one student as to the great experience they had.

Another felt that "mingling with other peers and professionals who were revved up about our career paths, increased my determination to stick to my chosen career path and continue learning. I am even interested in participating in the student competition next year."

There is more to the awards show than just the presentation of awards. There were presentations artistically by Vivienne Mackinder and Faatemah Ampey, and the Culture Shock Dance Crew put on a performance. The creative exhibits highlighted styles centered around high fashion and beauty. Mackinder's models were garbed in gowns in the extreme, and Ampey's models donned designs inspired by ballerinas.

Students who adored attending the event encouraged others to go see it in person.

"This was a fantastic trip! The greatest thing I ever did for myself was to attend the awards. I feel that all cosmetology students should be given the opportunity to attend -- and they should ACT on the opportunity to attend NAHA!"
