State Board Exam Preparation for July '09
Prior to starting your career as a professional in the beauty industry, you must successfully complete the California State Board assessments. Exam preparation classes are part of the regular program at Federico Beauty Institute. This means that students are provided with an advantage that can help them flourish from the start of their careers.
A week is spent after the Esthetician and Cosmetology programs are finished in preparation and practice for the State Board exams. Throughout this week, students become familiar with every aspect of the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology tests, including taking timed practice tests and taking written practice exams.
Tee Mason, who is a cosmetology instructor, believes that students need to take this preparation class in order to be fully prepared to take the exam.
"It is crucial that in the class, facing their instructors, students perform their techniques on mannequins so that they get judged on their abilities," she remarks. "It is set as close to the testing of the state board as is possible."
At Federico Beauty Institute, it is our desire to instill confidence in pupils regarding their successful completion of testing. By providing students with a comfortable environment and trustworthy teachers and classmates nearby, Federico makes it easy for students to concentrate on finishing the content of the test successfully while virtually eliminating any stress from the surroundings that often accompany it.
Along with the preparatory lessons they provide, Federico encourages pupils to apply in advance for the state testing. By applying in advance, pupils can complete the test within a couple weeks of graduating, so there is more chance of recalling the information they have learned. Being able to complete the state testing right after graduation provides pupils with an advantage for passing the exam.
If a student doesn't pre-apply for the test, or feels he or she needs more practice, they can repeat the Federico preparation class until such time as they feel at ease with the subject matter. In case pupils feel they are not prepared to do so, they are under no pressure to complete the state testing following the prep week. Federico is devoted to helping students be successful, and they encourage nervous students to take the prep course again until they feel completely relaxed, even after they graduate.
"After they have completed the state board class, these students are encouraged to take their model to school to practice on, so they can feel comfortable and be able to past the test," stated Mason.
The official state test is made up of two distinct portions. Many types of services must be finished in a set time period by students during the practical exam, while the performance is viewed and graded by an administrator of the test. The pupil brings a model to the assessment in order to carry out each of the services. A 100 question written exam is the second part of the test. The questions will range from categories such as hair care and services to questions of a science nature, such as chemistry or hygiene.
