Students Expand Their Education Through Community Involvement
Federico Beauty Institute cares a lot about helping the community by doing a lot of volunteer work and philanthropy. These events are a great way to earn credits while gaining valuable skills and educational experience.
Federico Beauty Institute raised a lot of money for charity in 2011. Throughout the year, students helped their community in a number of different ways. The picking process was done with the aid of the students as well as Student Council. They were responsible for organizing events and finding charities to donate to.
The Federico Beauty Institute held the second Manicures for a Cure fundraiser at the University of California Davis campus. Fourteen students volunteered at this event, performing manicures and giving all the profits to St. Jude's Hospital for finding cures and treatments for pediatric cancers.
The Federico Beauty Institute also hosted a blood drive at the school. The Mobile blood drive collected 32 pints of blood from 46 donors.
The cosmetology students did makeup and hair for a Styles of Paradise fashion show held to support charity at Sacramento State University. The show featured local designers from in and around Sacramento. The money made was given to the Autism Center for Excellence.
The Federico Beauty Institute Students donated their time to provide 200 haircuts to homeless people through the Project Homeless Connect charity event. In June they repeated it for foster families in the Lilliput Health and Wellness Fair, and in September they did it once more for homeless veterans in the Vietnam Stand Down function.
The Federico Beauty Institute was also involved in the 5k Walk for Making Strides against Breast Cancer, held in October in Sacramento. The Federico Team Anne, organized in the memory of Anne Federico who passed away in 2005, ranked in the top 15 of funds raised.
Federico Beauty Institute worked with WEAVE and the Mustard Seed Children's Home. As a feature of the partnership, the disadvantaged women and kids using their services were solicited to go to the student salon to enjoy free services.
